JUNIOR FIREFIGHTER PROGRAM
I. Objectives of a Junior Firefighter Program
§ To educate future members in the concepts and the training involved in the fire service, to prepare them for a future in the fire service.
§ To aid the department in all possible ways, to protect lives and property in the community.
§ To build discipline, character, and sense of community in our young adults.
II. Senior Firefighters
§ Senior Firefighters should be at least 21 years of age and have been an active member of the department for one year.
§ Senior Firefighters shall be responsible for the guidance, training, safety, of the junior member’s.
III. Membership/Eligibility
§ Membership is open to young men and women ages 16 to 19 years of age.
§ A person desiring membership shall submit an application to the Fire Chief. The Chief will research the application and report to the Officers of the Department. The Officers will make a recommendation at a business meeting of the department.
§ New members will serve a probationary period of 12 months. If successful at the end of the probationary period, the member shall then become an active member.
§ To remain active, each junior member must maintain a C average or better. Failure to do so will result in suspension from the Fire department, until the grades are brought back up. All reports will be reviewed and a copy placed in the members.
§ Any problems or complaints need to be discussed with a senior firefighter or officer, and then referred to the Chief if necessary.
§ All applications will be reviewed by the Fire Chief, along with a criminal record search.
IV. Member Conduct
§ All members, while at the station or representing the fire department, will act in a respectable manner.
§ All junior members are to obey and respect all fire department while at the department.
§ Junior members are allowed to have 1 visitor, unless the visitor is a family members, then more than 1 is allowed.
§ Personal phone calls are not allowed, except to contact a family member.
V. Suspension
§ Failure to obey any rule or regulation may result in a suspension period to be determined by the Fire Chief based upon the given incident.
§ If any member receives a grade below C on a report card or interims he/she will be suspended until grade is a C or better.
§ Once report cards or interim are received from school, the member has a maximum of two weeks to turn in his/her copy of their report card/interim to an advisor.
VI. Meetings
§ Meetings will be held every 1st Thursday of the month unless otherwise noted.
§ During the regular school calendar year, training will be every Thursday of each month.
§ Members who have not shown up for three consecutive Thursday unexcused will be considered inactive.
§ Each meeting/training session must have at least four members and one advisor.
§ To remain an active member, each member must attend a minimum of five hours of training per month.
VII. Department Property
§ Each person will be assigned the necessary equipment. Upon termination of membership, individuals must return all property to an advisor.
§ Treat any equipment, tools, etc as if were your own. Any misuse of equipment will result in disciplinary actions.
§ Members are not allowed to drive any apparatus belonging to the department.
§ Members will help keep the fire department, equipment, and apparatus clean.
